When we design infrared bathroom heaters, we’re trying to solve a pretty simple but annoying problem: how do you get instant, cozy heat in a steamy room without making the person under the lamp feel like they’re staring into the sun? This is a big deal, especially if you’ve got babies or toddlers in the house. Their eyes are way more sensitive than ours. So, for us, the way the light looks is just as important as how the heat feels. The trick with the light Standard IR lamps are blinding. They put out this harsh, bright white light that can actually stress out your retinas. Nobody wants that while they’re trying to relax in a bath. To fix this, we use special coatings on the quartz glass. Think of it like a pair of sunglasses for the bulb. It blocks out the visible light—mostly that piercing blue stuff—but lets the infrared heat slide right through. The result? Instead of a blinding white glare, you get a soft, warm glow. You still get all the heat, but your eyes don’t have to squint. How it actually works Inside the tube, there’s a tungsten filament sitting in halogen gas. The halogen is key because it stops the filament from wearing out too fast, so the lamp actually lasts. But since this is for a bathroom, we have to be obsessive about the seals. Steam is the enemy here. If moisture leaks into the electrical contacts, the lamp will burn out way too early. We make sure the housing is tight so the steam stays where it belongs—in the air, not in the electronics. A few things to keep in mind Here’s the trade-off: when you filter out the bright light, you lose a tiny bit of the total energy. It’s not a lot, but you might notice it. If the heat doesn’t feel quite strong enough, you can just bump up the wattage or move the lamp a bit lower. And a quick tip? Use polished aluminum reflectors. If you don’t, about 30% of your heat just drifts up and warms your ceiling, which is a total waste. You want that warmth hitting your skin, not the paint on the roof.
